Step 1: Press Win + R to summon Run window, then type regedit.exe and press OK

Step 2: Go to the following key in the left pane of Registry Editor.

Step 3: Search the Default string and change it to %SystemDrive%UsersDefault.

Change the Registry

Step 1: Open Registry Editor, then find the following registry subkey and folders began with S-1-5 (SID key) followed by a long number.

Step 2: Click each S-1-5 folder, double-click the ProfileImagePath entry in the details pane and find out which is the user account profile with the error.

  • Rename the .bak folder, if you have two folders starting with S-1-5 followed by some long numbers and one of them ended with .bak.

1. Right-click the folder without .bak and click Rename. Then, type .ba and press ENTER.

2. Right-click the folder that is named .bak and click Rename. Then, remove .bak at the end of the folder name and press ENTER.

3. Right-click the folder that is named .ba and click Rename. Then, change the .ba to .bak at the end of the folder name and press ENTER.

  • If you have only one folder starting with S-1-5 followed by long numbers which ends with .bak. Right-click the folder and click Rename. Then, remove .bak at the end of the folder name and press ENTER.

Step 3: Click the folder without .bak in the details pane, double-click RefCount and type 0

Step 4: Click the folder without .bak, in the details pane, double-click State, type 0

Step 5: Close Registry Editor and restart your computer, then check if you can log on with your user account.

Delete the SID and create a new profile

Step 2: Click the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box, then Click Settings in the User Profiles area.

Step 3: Select the profile that you want to delete in the User Profiles dialog box, then click Delete
