Necessity for file backup
Want to backup files from command prompt in Windows 10? Somebody may say it is unnecessary if already has a full backup. In contrast, I think it is quite necessary.
Creating a full backup is a secure way to keep all your data in protection. But it will occupy much storage and time. Also, it will backup those files and folders you do not need. While file backup only backup the specific files and folders you want. This will save much time and storage.
Backup files from Robocopy command prompt in Windows 10
Robocopy, or "Robust File Copy", is a command-line directory and/or file replication command. Robocopy functionally replaces Xcopy, with more options.
If you want to have an additional copy of your important personal and working files just to be on the safe side. While you can easily do so by copying your files and folders to another place via drag and drop. But, it can be a tedious operation.
Luckily, Robocopy provides more than 80 command-line parameters and switches that will allow you to create a powerful data backup operation.
For example, If I want to back up the data file contents of my user profile, C:\Users\William, to a folder named FileBackup on an external hard disk, which is assigned drive letter H. (You'll, of course, replace the path and name with your own.) The basic command begins with:
Robocopy "C:\User\William" "H:\FileBackup"
If I do not want to backup the hidden system files, I can use this command: /XA:SH. Then the command should be:
Robocopy "C:\User\William" "H:\FileBackup" /XA:SH
There are still much more parameters to be known, it would be dazzling to introduce them all. To know more parameters about Robocopy, open command line and type Robocopy /? It will show you a detailed list.
Backup files using Robocopy command prompt in windows 10 is a perfect way to keep files and folders in secure. However, the least of perfection is Robocopy does not backup open files. Next, I will introduce you an easier way to backup files.
