How to migrate physical computer to Virtual Machine?

AOMEI Backupper, designed by AOMEI TECH, is a powerful backup software which you can use to migrate the OS to Virtual Machine. Almost all the Windows PC OS and Server OS are supported in different versions of AOMEI Backupper. For PC users, we highly recommend the Professional version to you. It offers the backup & recovery, clone and sync features you need in Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP. With its easy-to-use interface, you can operate it without any help.

Here are the specific steps of migrating physical PC to Virtual Machine. Before you do, there are some preparations:

● You need to install a Virtual Machine software like VMware Workstation first.

● If your virtual Machine is on another computer, prepare a USB flash drive of which the volume is at least equal to the system size of the source computer.

If the Virtual Machine is on your computer:

Step 1. Follow the guides to create a system backup image first and remember where you put the image like a USB flash drive.

Step 2. Create a bootable ISO file and save it on the local disk.

Step 3. Start the Virtual Machine from the bootable ISO file. It will run AOMEI Backupper automatically. Then, click “Restore” and follow the wizard to restore the system backup image to this Virtual Machine.

If the Virtual Machine is on another computer:

Step 1. Create a system image and save it on your USB flash drive (other removable devices are OK and you can even store it on NAS).

Step 2. Make a bootable ISO file and put it on the USB flash drive.

Step 3. Start the Virtual Machine from the bootable USB.

Step 4. You’ll see loaded AOMEI Backupper once login. Select “Restore” and then “Universal Restore” to ensure the system is bootable after recovery. Select the system backup task to restore and click “Next”.

Select Universal Restore

Step 5. Select the backup point of your system backup and click “Next”.

Step 6. Select the system partition of the Virtual Machine as the destination path and click “Next”.

Step 7. Confirm operations on the “Operation Summary” page and click on “Start Restore” button.

Click Start Restore

This method is very simple compared with other software. You can also use the PXE Boot Tool to replace the bootable ISO file. Besides migrating physical computer to Virtual Machine, AOMEI Backupper supports to transfer OS from Virtual Machine to physical PC and move OS from Virtual Machine to other Virtual Machine.
