About RollBack Rx
RollBack Rx is one disaster recovery solution designed for Windows OS, which will create a full snapshot for the first time called “baseline” after the complete installation, and you can revert back your operating system to previous state. RollBack Rx has three editions aiming at different groups, RollBack Rx PC Home Edition, RollBack Rx PC Professional Edition, and RollBack Rx Server Edition. Therein, Home Edition is free of charge.
RollBack Rx is also a software uninstaller and malware remover, which ensure the security of your running OS. Mostly business firms like companies & corporations, schools, internet shop, and people who do lots of security testing that against virus/malware attack will benefit most from this software.
The installation of RollBack Rx is a little complicated than regular software. To install RollBack Rx, you need to firstly do a clean install of your Windows so that you can make the “baseline” reduced to the maximum. Secondly, backup your system with reliable backup software. Thirdly, start to install the RollBack Rx in custom installation. Finally, install your favorite software and security software one by one. Note that if you’re using the RollBack Rx Home Edition, you can only protect the system drive.
If you don’t have the “Home” key on your keyboard, you can go to Rx settings and choose a new “console key”. After the completely installation, you can back up the entire PC to external hard drive for extra layer protection.
Once installed, the RollBack Rx is invisible except for an icon in the system tray. The workflow of this utility is that it takes a snapshot daily at first boot and whenever you launch a Setup.exe program. If disaster strikes, pick a previous snapshot to restore your system. If Windows crashed, this utility still have sub-console (mini OS) that boots prior to Windows.
Why would you need RollBack Rx alternative?
First of all, as covered before, the Home Edition of RollBack Rx protects only system partition instead of the whole hard drive. You can easily create a snapshot of the system, and later revert it to an earlier time. But what about the irreplaceable files and documents and photos you've created? It doesn’t monitor the file for changes, so it is not a real continuous data protection. Installing one another file backup software to protect them or purchasing the paid version of RollBack Rx is not an effective and wise choice.
What’s more, the free version of RollBack Rx doesn’t support Schedule Task. The Task Schedule in Home Edition comes pre-configured to take a snapshot at the first boot of the day and upon execution of “Setup.exe” function, which means that you cannot set it to weekly or monthly mode. It also cannot take snapshot for multiple partitions or physical drives, which is quite inconvenient nowadays since so many users equip more than one hard drive in their PC.
Moreover, RollBack Rx PC Home Edition fails to encrypt snapshots that may bring unauthorized access to your images. You are advised do not install Rx on a SSD drive because it doesn’t allow the SSD TRIM function. And it does not work with SCSI, RAID or MIRROR hard-drive configurations as well. An increasing number of users would like to transfer C drive to SSD for better performance currently. So Rx is not a perfect solution for users who have SSD installed. So there still is necessary to find out RollBack Rx alternatives.
