Clonezilla does not support incremental backup or differential backup for now, so you need to find a Cloezilla alternative for incremental backup.

Can you use Clonezilla for incremental backup?

Clonezilla is an open source software that you can use for disk imaging and disk cloning. It provides Clonezilla Live, a bootable media that allows you to clone or backup without loading your operating system (OS). In case of any unexpected damages that may happen to your data, many people choose Clonezilla to create backups regularly and repeatedly. However, Clonezilla can only do full backup, and incremental backup or differential backup is currently not available for Clonezilla. Full backups are convenient for recovery, but these many versions of backup take a lot of space. If you want to keep your data regularly backed up while saving space, you can perform incremental backup or differential backup. What’s more, doing incremental backup or differential backup is much faster than doing full backup. In this case, you need another freeware to do scheduled incremental backup.

Clonezilla alternative software-AOMEI Backupper

As Clonezilla, freeware AOMEI Backupper Standard provides clone and backup features. As for backup and recovery, AOMEI Backupper is able to run scheduled incremental/differential backup to any locations shown in My Computer including external hard drive and NAS. What’s more, you can set up a scheme to automatically delete previous backups to free up space for the backups to come. As we know. Incremental backup is based on the last backup, and differential backup the last full backup. If you delete any of the previous incremental backup, you will have no backups available for recovery. The solution of AOMEI Backupper is to automatically create a full backup before deleting any incremental backup. Once you have created a backup, you can recovery your computer when it is unbootable with AOMEI PXE tool or bootable rescue media. Additionally, you can also restore system to another computer regardless of its hardware or firmware. As for clone, AOMEI Backupper is capable of cloning large disk to a small one. Besides, to clone MBR to GPT disk is also supported. Therefore, besides using Clonezilla in Windows 10/8/7, you can also choose AOMEI Backupper for your cloning or imaging tasks.

How to create incremental backups?

To set up an incremental backup is very simple with incremental backup software AOMEI Backupper. You can create once incremental backup after a full backup or schedule a regular incremental backup task.

To create a once incremental backup:

1. Download AOMEI Backupper, and use it to create a full backup.

2. In the Home screen, locate the backup and select “Incremental backup” under “Backup” button.

3. Then an incremental backup will be running in the background.

To schedule a regular incremental backup job

1. Open AOMEI Backupper, and select one type of backup as the Backup screen. For system backup is often used, let’s take system backup as an example.

2. For system backup, the needed partition will be automatically selected in Step 1, so you only need to click Step 2 to select a destination path.

3. Click “Schedule” button to select a time to run the backup daily, weekly, or monthly. For a schedule backup, it will run incremental backups by default. You can click “Advanced” tab to change it.

4. Back to the backup screen, click “Backup option” to see more options if need be, and click ”Start Backup” to run this schedule.

Apart from using its own service to run scheduled backups, you can also use Task Scheduler. As a conclusion, if you are looking for a software to replace Clonezilla for incremental backup, AOMEI Backupper is your best choice.
