The Best Tool of Sector by Sector Clone: AOMEI Backupper

What’s sector by sector clone?

Sector by sector clone refers to clone all sectors even if the sector is blank or it’s a logically bad sector, so an exact copy of a source hard\partition you will get after cloning sector by sector. With the 100% identical copy of a disk, you can upgrade your original small hard drive to a brand new and large drive without installing the operating system and applications anymore. In addition, the copy is helpful for data rescue, for example, once your old hard drive is with defective areas, a recovery procedure on the disk will causes further defects resulting from the inherent exposure of this procedure, so the best way is to clone disk sector by sector which causes much less exposure due to its linear operation and includes anything on the old drive even deleted, lost files and inaccessible data. All in all, sector by sector clone is a valuable try, and a sector by sector clone software is important, too.

Why need a clone tool for sector clone?

Usually, cloning disk sector by sector requires that the logical sector size of the two disks be same, or the clone job will fail. For example, you have a 3TB drive that you want to move into PC for faster access, but one shows logical sector size of 4096\4096 and the other shows 512\4096, which prevents you to do a sector clone though you have tried various commands(Window XP “Manage” and Windows 7 “Manage”, etc). Therefore, you need a clone tool because a clone tool is smart enough to skip blank clusters and are also capable of cloning between disk with different logical sector size, such as, AOMEI Backupper.

How to clone sector by sector with AOMEI Backupper?

AOMEI Backupper will help you achieve sector clone job regardless of your operating system, file systems and partition scheme. Following, we will shows you how to clone a GPT disk to MBR disk sector by sector directly with AOMEI Backupper.

Step 3: Select a disk to save the clone as “Destination Disk” (here is disk 2, a MBR disk). Then click “Next”.

  • When you do “sector by sector” clone, the size of the destination location must be greater or equal to the source disk.
  • Disk clone only supports to clone 3 partition at most from GPT to MBR, so if the source disk contains over 3partitions, the remaining partition should use “Partition Clone”.

Step 4: In this window, you can view the operation. Then tick “sector by sector clone”, and if your destination disk is SSD, “Align partition to optimize for SSD” is recommended so as to optimize your disk’s read and write speed. Finally, click “Start Clone”.
